Grand Seiko ‘Shunbun’ SBGA413 on Graphite Alligator strap by Dangerous9straps – At Dangerous9straps, we’re always thrilled when a local customer visits us in person to collaborate on a custom strap design. Our latest Watch of the Week comes from just such a visit — a pairing of Christian’s stunning Grand Seiko ‘Shunbun’ SBGA413 with our newly completed Graphite Alligator strap, a combination that left us thoroughly impressed and eager to share.
Experiencing the Grand Seiko ‘Shunbun’ SBGA413 in Person
This was my first opportunity to handle the Grand Seiko SBGA413 in person, and I must say it exceeded my already high expectations. Grand Seiko’s reputation for impeccable fit and finish is fully justified here — every element of the case and dial exudes refinement. The real standout, however, is the dial, inspired by the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms during the spring season known in Japan as Shunbun.
While the dial is officially described as light grey, there’s a subtle pinkish hue woven into its finely textured surface — a visual effect that’s almost ethereal. It’s not a hue that jumps out at you; rather, it reveals itself slowly as the light changes. Paired with the beautifully presented Caliber 9R65 Spring Drive movement, this watch is a true celebration of quiet elegance and mechanical precision. The Strap: Graphite Alligator with White Linen Stitching
To complement this poetic timepiece, we created a Graphite Alligator strap — a first for this particular watch model, since our previous project for the SBGA413 featured our signature curved lug design with exotic Ostrich Leg leather as seen here. This time, Christian opted for a standard straight-end fitment, which looks absolutely fantastic on the watch and gives it a clean, classic profile.
This strap is hand-crafted using matte Graphite Alligator from our premium France Croco Alligator Collection, paired with a Commando Grey Luxury Alcantara lining, which delivers a buttery-soft feel against the wrist — perfect for daily wear. We finished it with hand saddle-stitching in crisp White French-milled linen, giving the strap a subtle contrast that ties together the soft tones of the dial and strap. The look is completed with our 18mm polished inner-folded deployant clasp, providing both security and elegance.
A Custom Collaboration Worth Celebrating
Christian’s visit to our studio allowed us to fine-tune every detail of his custom strap to match his aesthetic goals and wear preferences. This kind of personal collaboration is something we always encourage when possible, as it results in a strap that not only fits perfectly but also reflects the owner’s unique style.
The finished product is nothing short of compelling — an elegant, understated combination that allows the Grand Seiko SBGA413 to shine while adding a touch of bespoke refinement. For all these reasons, Christian’s Grand Seiko on Graphite Alligator is without question our Watch of the Week!
