This week’s featured commission combines both, with longtime customers Peter and his wife Margot entrusting Dangerous9straps to create a matching pair of bespoke straps for their beautiful vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava watches.

Designed Around Two Vintage Treasures
When creating bespoke straps for vintage Patek Philippe watches, every detail matters. The goal is never simply to replace an existing strap—it is to create something that enhances the watch while respecting its heritage.
For both Peter’s and Margot’s Calatrava watches, we selected our Bamboo Alligator leather. Its distinctive natural grain offers just enough character while remaining elegant enough to complement these classic yellow gold dress watches.
Each strap was built with light padding at the lugs, creating a subtle profile that suits the refined case design without overwhelming the watches’ slim vintage proportions.
Bespoke Details That Make the Difference
These straps showcase the level of customization that is only possible with a truly bespoke watch strap.
Both straps have been carefully tapered to accommodate the customers’ original 14mm solid gold Patek Philippe buckles, preserving an important part of each watch’s originality. We also pre-cut the lug tabs to perfectly accept the original OEM Patek Philippe quick-release spring bars, ensuring the straps install exactly as intended by the manufacturer.
The finishing details are equally important.
Both straps feature our signature superfine hand stitching using premium French-milled Ecru linen thread. The warm tone of the stitching beautifully echoes the creamy vintage ecru dials that have developed such wonderful character over the decades.
To complete the design, each strap has been lined with our exceptionally soft yet incredibly durable Clone Kangaroo Gloving Leather, custom-dyed in matching ecru. This subtle design choice reinforces the vintage aesthetic while providing superb comfort on the wrist from the very first wear.
One detail that few people consciously recognize the edge paint of the straps. Our edge paints are hand-blended when needed to provide a complimentary color to the watch strap, resulting in a unified presentation:

Working closely with Peter throughout the design process allowed us to create a pair of straps that complement both watches perfectly while maintaining their individual personalities.

The rich texture of the Bamboo Alligator, the warm ecru stitching, the custom-dyed kangaroo lining, and the precise bespoke construction all work together to highlight the beautiful yellow gold cases and wonderfully aged dials.
Peter and I both agree that these straps pair beautifully with this exceptional “his and hers” collection. The finished result feels completely natural—as though the watches and straps have always belonged together.
